So this event was different than what Im used to shooting. I really thought it was going to be like a fashion week event, but my radar was not even on the right planet. Once I arrived I learned quick - BEAUTY CON is not about fashion honey, it about beauty. My Tarte lipgloss that I got as stocking stuffer 2 years ago - wasn't gonna cut it.
After some confusion at check-in (which was quickly handled by Jessica one of the women that started Beauty Con) I received my credentials. After that it was off to get my swag.
The tote that was included was amazing, there were tons of products inside including : NYK EYESHADOW, OPI Nailpolish, Bare Minerals Prime Time Foundation Primer : Brightening, Neutralizing, Original & Oil Control, Too Faced Chocolate Soleil, 2 pairs of Sunglasses, Maybelline Pumped Up Mascara, Maybelline Lip Gloss, $20 gift Card to thursday Friday, $10 Credit to Me Undies, and my favorite: your choice of a Tshirt. I chose the "I woke up like this" shirt.
There were tons of booths from American Apparel, Tattly Tattoos, Manicure Stations, Meet & Greets, Elle, Tarte Cosmetics, Bare Minerals, Uberliss. Boohoo, VIP lounge, Speaker Panel, Revlon, & Style Haul.
The VIP Area had some food, and free booze. The cutest were these little individual cups of wine that reminded me of "Quarter Drinks" from my younger days. You just punched a straw in the top and had a mini glass of wine to carry around, that you didn't worry about spilling. Genius. outside was a parking lot of food trucks & picnic tables so you could eat, sit down, and trade items from those awesome swag bags.
My favorite booth was from Boohoo.com. You tweeted to them and then got a gift from their vending machine. Items included totes, sunglasses, gift cards and other merchandise. The line for this was crazy long, I was so happy I had a press pass for this one. Their rep took time out to explain the "Tweet for a Treat", and gave me a giveaway for my blog. (check back Monday for the giveaway). Thanks again to Boohoo.com for being so awesome.
At the Boohoo Booth I ran into blogger Nadia Aboulhosn (visit her blog) . She posed for some photos at the booth and with her makeup/hair crew (more images below). Speaking of makeup the big hit of the day was the new BareMinerals "BareSkin" Foundation. Two weeks I assisted on a photoshoot and the makeup artist was using this product on the model. I couldnt believe how amazing it worked. She ended up using it on me and I was so impressed with the results. That weekend I was at Sephora and got color matched and took some home. Its great if you want that "no makeup, makeup look" or if you want to build on it and make it more dramatic. It photographs extremely well too.
Overall my experience at Beauty Con 2014 was great. There were girls and women of all ages. Vendors that were well informed on their products, tons of free shit, plenty of wine, and the organizers did a great job at keeping you entertained. The cons were : the lines, one women's bathroom for all those ladies (seriously), and the fact that I didn't get to attend any of the panels as I was there to shoot. Also carrying all that stuff around got annoying.
